March 2024 - Skye and second halves

Hello everyone, I hope you are keeping well.

March began on Skye with one of the most epic days I have ever had as a photographer, with a hike up the Storr that turned out well and then we saw a beautiful specimen of a Sea Eagle on our second wildlife cruise. Unfortunately, I missed the second week of March / the tenth week of Project 52, I was ill and didn’t have the chance to get out, so that annoyed me.

For the second half of the month, things started to pick up again, and luckily I recovered in time for the eleventh week and visited a new area in the Trossachs I had never been to before, Loch Ard. Week twelve finished and I was distraught, I thought I wasn’t going to produce an image but luckily the Northern Lights appeared over Edinburgh, and at 11:00 pm on Sunday I got an image with an hour to spare! Then the final week of March was a fairly busy time, with a bank holiday weekend I managed to get out for three photography shoots, twice visiting places fairly close and another trip to the Trossachs to climb Ben A’an.

The Old man of Storr - 01/03

16/03 - Loch Ard stone jetty

Image 2 - Loch Ard Stone Jetty - This was my first time visiting the fairly well-known Loch Ard and the area around it, there are lots of potential images in the Trossachs that I haven’t discovered yet, this wouldn’t be my only trip to the Trossachs this month.

23/03 - Aurora over Cramond Island

Image 3 - Aurora over Cramond Island - I was worried I wasn’t going to have an image for this week, then scrolling through Facebook I saw multiple posts regarding an ongoing aurora and decided to drive down to my local beach and Voila, it must’ve been powerful, the moon was full and the light pollution near Edinburgh is terrible!

Tantallon Castle from Seacliff Beach

Image 4 - Tantallon Castle from Seacliff - I had many images I could have chosen for this spot, I went out three times and successfully got images I was happy with from each trip. I have decided on this moody image of Tantallon castle because I have attempted images at this location for quite some time and this has been my favorite so far, and I can still improve on the images I have taken on the other shoots!

April should be interesting, I will be travelling around a fair bit to the south western Lake District in England for a long weekend and then off the an area I have never been close to, Knoydart in scottish highlands, the most remote region in Scotland!

Wish me luck!
